For some reason I find fantasy books much more believable than mainstream fiction. I mostly read fantasy and all sub-genres but if overwhelmed with curiosity I'll occasionally read a 'norm' book.
I am an author also but I am mostly on this site to connect as a reader.

Hollowmen
I almost DNF'd this at 10% it just took a pretty severe nose-dive from the first book. This book is also about as gory as you get. It also has a whole new cast of characters so the character development has to completely start over for everyone but the main character and I don't think she did as good of a job with this 'cast'. This book kind of reminded me of a movie sequel to a zombie flick, new cast, lower budget, more gruesome.
All that said once I got through the first part I was very entertained, the suspense kept me going.
Chase the Dark (Steel & Stone) (Volume 1)
4.5 starsI've been in a bit of a dry spell with UF novels lately but this one hit the spot.
A Book of Spirits and Thieves
Wow. Just wow.
I love love the Falling Kingdoms series but was so turned off by the premise of this book I didn't even put it on my to-read shelf. I read a review for it from a blogger I follow thought...err...I guess I'll give it a try and wwwwwwWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWiiiieeeee! it was better than I could have even conceived of, I loved it as much or more than the series it spun off of.
Read it.
Seriously, do it.

The Mayfair Moon
If I was going to rate this book it would probably be like a 2 or 2.5 star book, but I'm not really sure so I'm going to leave the rating blank. I didn't really like it but I finished it, which is very unusual for me as I often will drop a book I like because something annoys me, I'm fickle. The thing about this book is it had everything I liked in a book, it just didn't quite hit the spot. It was like ordering your favorite pie (cherry, for me) and it just tasting a little off like they used splenda instead of sugar or something, and even though you don't like it, you eat it and only really question yourself after you're left with that just-plain-wrong aftertaste.
I guess what really bothered me was that Redmerski (an author I usually really like) didn't take the time or put the effort into building up the attraction, she just skipped that step. Which made the obsessive love that bloomed after pretty much no build up made me just feel annoyed.

Also the MC could not figure out some very, very, very obvious things, which seemed very gimmicky, needing to lead the plot along with obstinate-obliviousness.
On the flip-side, she did a great job with her world building and werewolf concept. And the plotline-potential was actually pretty excellent, it just fell flat for me.
Tall, Dark & Lonely
Okay so I'm not going to rate this because I think this book deserves a higher rating than what I would give it. I rate based on my enjoyment NOT on the books worthwhile-ness. I think there are two types of paranormal romance: paranormal novels with a romance twist (for example: [b:Dragon Bound|9637479|Dragon Bound (Elder Races, #1)|Thea Harrison|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1312822853s/9637479.jpg|14524855] or [b:Halfway to the Grave|1421990|Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress, #1)|Jeaniene Frost|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1373855613s/1421990.jpg|1412415] or [b:Feral Sins|13522957|Feral Sins (The Phoenix Pack, #1)|Suzanne Wright|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1331458140s/13522957.jpg|19083644]) and then there are romance novels with a paranormal twist (for example: [b:Conversion|9368291|Conversion (Conversion, #1)|S.C. Stephens|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1421425057s/9368291.jpg|14251816]). This book is firmly that second kind, pretty much a romance book with some super basic vampire elements. It was very good for a romance book, but I like the world building a little more complicated with paranormal novels. If you like that second type of book I encourage you to buy this one, the characters were great and complex and the romance was nice and steamy.
The Young Elites
Good book. It took daring twists, had original world building, dimensional characters but...
...there was something missing for me. I hope I find it in the sequel.

Lost Girl
I'm really swaying between three and four stars. The ending, while not happy, was unexpected for me which I really like. I mean all the signs were there but I just didn't expect the author to make such a bold move. I didn't really like the mc Molly, she's a real big grump, understandably so, but still it got on my nerves. Also the romance just didn't catch as it should. It felt like it went slow, slow, slow then way too fast and intense.
The Wrath and the Dawn
4.5 starsThis book is full of angst, has somewhat of a love triangle, and a love story you feel down to your toes. I was not a big fan of the ending.
Uprooted
This is the second book this year I've read about a sentient malicious forest, the other was [b:Crimson Bound|21570318|Crimson Bound|Rosamund Hodge|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1413217438s/21570318.jpg|40902835]. I've never read a book with this type of 'evil' before but both books were spectacular and very different, and coincidentally my favorite books this far this year. I'd actually go so far as to call this book the best epic fantasy book I've found since [b:Daughter of the Forest|13928|Daughter of the Forest (Sevenwaters, #1)|Juliet Marillier|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1343589988s/13928.jpg|1897725] (maybe even better).
This novel was incredible. Almost perfect. The narrative, voice, pace, style, it was all flawlessly delivered.
The protagonist was one of my favorite literary characters ever. I was pretty much sold from the beginning but there's a scene pretty early on where she's pressured by the very mixed hero of the book who is titled the 'dragon' he keeps pressuring her to beautify herself but she defies him and says 'she doesn't owe him pretty.' It sounds way more trite with me writing it but I just loved that. I'm so tired of these 'ugly' protagonists obsessing over their looks like just because it's negative it shouldn't be considered vanity. Positive or negative, if a character focuses half their time and attention on their looks, they are vain. Anyhow rant over.
That wasn't the only great thing about the MC, she grew as a person but never to please anyone really. She just rocked, 100%.
Steel's Edge
I mean no disrespect the authors, they are by far my favorite authors in. the. world. And this is why I read this book and the book before it even though book two in the series didn't float my boat. It just baffles me that they could write something and I would be that into it. I think it's the speed of the romance, I like when they play it a lot slower.
The Faerie War
This probably was more of a 5 star-er...I wasn't in the right mindset. It just seemed to be too slow in the beginning, then it caught it's pace in the middle but the ending was way too fast. However, I love this series it was sweet and the story didn't do anything I expected it to. Also the heroine was the best kind of imperfect--she's smart, tough, capable and mostly-ethical but also a little bit selfish and way too driven to be the best and she really does screw up bad because of it. the love interest and love story is also just wonderful. A good series worth reading.
